The CIMS Annual Mother-Friendly Childbirth Forum focuses on the most authoritative and up-to-date research information pertaining to normal birth and the ten steps of Mother-Friendly maternity care. The Forum is a unique educational and networking event that brings together recognized experts, opinion leaders, well-known childbirth authors, maternity care practitioners, and childbirth advocates.

This year’s meeting will feature Maureen P. Corry, MPH, executive director of Childbirth Connection and vice-chair of the National Quality Forum’s Consumer Council, as the keynote speaker. Maureen is also co-author of a recently released report “Evidence-Based Maternity Care: What It Is and What It Can Achieve.” Maureen will discuss the findings of this important study during her keynote address, "Transforming Maternity Care: We’re All in It Together," during the Opening Session on Thursday, March 5.

Attendance: Over 175 maternity care professionals and childbirth advocates will participate in this conference. Fields represented will include labor and delivery nursing, midwifery, lactation, labor support, childbirth education, obstetrics/gynecology, family medicine, public health, practice management, etc. all learning about the benefits of, and barriers to, evidence-based maternity services.

Location & Social Activities: Located just minutes from Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, Old Town, museums, beaches, world-class shopping, downtown and the Convention Center, The Handlery Hotel & Resort allows guests to experience all that San Diego has to offer. In addition to the Thursday evening Welcome Reception, CIMS is working with local organizers to offer a production of Karen Brody’s acclaimed play, Birth, on Friday night that will attract attendees from the local community.

CIMS Forum Scholarship Fund
Please help CIMS to extend the reach of this important educational opportunity with a donation to the CIMS Forum Scholarship Fund. This fund is a general scholarship fund to provide opportunities for CIMS members with economic hardship needs to attend the Forum. In doing so, they are able to share their experience and knowledge gained with their colleagues, thus extending the reach of the conference program to providers and advocates beyond the meeting participants. CIMS would like to be able to offer several scholarships for the 2009 Forum. However, this fund depends on donations. To contribute, please complete our Sponsorship & Advertising Application Form (PDF). 

CIMS Forum sponsorship opportunities are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and are available until a completed application and payment in full are received by CIMS. All promotional material must be approved by CIMS in advance of the conference. All promotional material must be compliant with the WHO-UNICEF “International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.” CIMS reserves the right to decline any sponsor or promotional material that it judges inappropriate.
